Philosophy of the World's Leader in Addiction Research

Summit Malibu treats you as a whole person. As primary illnesses, the person afflicted suffers physically, psychologically and socially throughout the disease progression. This progression is demonstrated in not only the compulsive use of mind-altering chemicals to the point of physical dependence, but also in the development of a set of beliefs, feelings, behaviors and relationship dynamics that destroy trust and undermine a sense of safety and security in oneself and ones experience in the world.

We help you learn to become abstinent. Treatment at Summit Malibu involves becoming abstinent from the physical influence of mind-altering chemicals. Examining the physical, psychological, emotional, behavioral, and interpersonal consequences of the addictive process and developing the recovery tools that support the remission process from the disease can occur.

We begin the processes to reverse the disease. The disease concept is a concept that the addiction disease progression happens over time, and therefore recovery from that progressive disease process also happens over time and through various levels of care: it is a process not an event. A large part of this process is to then develop bridges from treatment into life outside the safety of the treatment dynamic.

Proven Program of Ongoing Care After Primary Treatment

Our Continuing Care Plan creates long term goals toward physical, psychological and social recovery activities for life. A supportive environment for these activities is essential. We strongly encourage participation in 12-Step Recovery programs or other programs that support clients' progress and growth. These programs enhance one's knowledge of the addiction process and help one remain conscious of his or her recovery needs. These programs also support one's faith and improve one's social support for living a free and full life without the use of mind-altering chemicals.
